Vestiges

This painting entitled “Eté aux abords des étangs d’Hollande” is part of the “Nature Abstraction” series.
It was inspired by a scorching summer walk in the heart of the Rambouillet forest, around the rocks of Angennes in Poigny-la-Forêt in the Yvelines (France).
Its colors evoke the ferns burned by the sun, the pines, the birches and the oaks, as well as the source of a small river, which is called the Guesle. The cracks evoke the rocks; the fragility and friability of these astonishing chaos of strangely shaped sandstone. The rocks of Angennes are a “must see” of the forest massif of Rambouillet. Here mingle the mineral and the vegetable, far from the urban trepidations.
This painting is an original work, there is only one unique copy.

“Vestiges” is a semi-abstract painting inspired by the landscapes of the Étangs de Hollande. The work evokes the passage of time, capturing the way nature gradually reclaims the traces of history.

Created using acrylic paint and marble dust, the painting plays with textures and nuances to craft a minimalist landscape that straddles the line between reality and imagination. Textures add depth, while minimalist forms leave room for emotion and personal interpretation.

The inspiration came from a summer walk by the Étangs de Hollande in the Yvelines region. These ponds once supplied water to the fountains at the Palace of Versailles and were the site of a château belonging to Louis XV—of which only a few remnants remain today. Steeped in history, the area has since become a nature reserve where water, vegetation, and birdlife create a landscape of profound serenity.

With “Vestiges”, I sought to capture the dialogue between memory and nature—between what fades away and what is reborn. It is a work that fosters contemplation, inviting each viewer to imagine their own story.
